Food Sense Wales at the Royal Welsh Show 2025

Food Sense Wales is looking forward to being a part of the Horticulture Village at this year’s Royal Welsh Show, showcasing its flagship projects and highlighting its mission to build a healthier, more sustainable food system across Wales.

Located in the Horticulture Village, the Food Sense Wales area invites visitors to explore the growing momentum behind Local Food Partnerships and meet the inspiring coordinators who are transforming food systems in their communities. Visitors will also get a taste of the Welsh Veg in Schools project, which is helping to bring more locally grown, organic vegetables into school meals across the country.

Two micro gardens will be on display that have been planted by the team at Bremenda Isaf Farm in Carmarthenshire, celebrating the types of vegetables being grown as part of this exciting initiative.

Throughout the week, Food Sense Wales will also host a series of engaging sessions at the Dysgubor in the Horticulture Area:

From Plot to Plate – Celebrating Welsh Veg in Schools

• Monday & Tuesday at 3pm: Join chef Nerys Howell for a live cookery demonstration using local, organic, and seasonal vegetables. The session will include conversations with growers, educators, and partners involved in the project.
• Wednesday at 2pm & Thursday at 3pm: Stewart Williams, Development Chef at Castell Howell, will take the stage for a similar interactive session, cooking using local, organic, and seasonal vegetables.

Welsh Veg in Schools – Growing Connections

• Tuesday at 11am: Hosted by Castell Howell, this session will be presented by children from Ysgol y Dderi, Ceredigion.  Having joined the initiative in 2024, the children explain how they got involved and talk to key members of the project about the work that they do.  Listen to their recent podcast here.

Food Sense Wales is also pleased to host a special event in Tŵr Brycheiniog on the Tuesday afternoon.

Local Food Partnerships – Driving a Good Food Movement in Wales

Tuesday at 2.30pm: Since 2022, Local Food Partnerships have expanded to cover every local authority area in Wales and have been recognised in the Welsh Government’s Community Food Strategy.  Join Food Sense Wales and Local Food Partnership coordinators and members, to find out more about this exciting movement happening across Wales.
