Statement from Food Sense Wales: Welsh Government’s Announcement on the Food Environment

“Food Sense Wales welcomes today’s announcement by the Welsh Government stating that legislation is to be introduced in Wales to restrict the placement and price promotion of products high in fat, sugar and salt.

Evidence by Public Health Wales shows that price promotions of unhealthy products leads to an increase in consumption of fat, sugar and salt and ultimately leads to people purchasing more than they otherwise would.

With this new legislation being introduced, it is vital that retailers now consider how price promotions could be used to make whole and staple foods – such as fruit and veg – more affordable during the cost of living crisis, whilst also ensuring that farmers receive a fair return for their produce.”
